TA KE IT
FROM ME
Though the Olsons
are pleased with
their new kitchen,
Jayne says they
learned some
valuable lessons.
■ You don't need
it a ll
“We got
romanced by the
idea of an extra sink
on the island, but
it's not that big of a
kitchen. The reality
is that we didn't
need it, and we
could have used
that spot for more
countertop.”
■ Hire part-time
help
“With a
limited budget, we
hired an architect to
draw the plans and
then paid her by the
hour as we needed
additional input.”
■ Consider your
needs
“One thing I
loved having in our
old kitchen was a
pair of really comfy
chairs. But I didn’t
make room for them
in the remodel, and I
wish I had.”

SIZING IT UP
The remodel kept the
main prep area in the
same footprint. “I love
that we didn’t overbuild,
because the kitchen is so
efficient,” Jayne says.
